Placer County--It’s All Here, All Year!
From beautiful Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada’s, to the historic mining communities of the foothills, to the farms and ranches of the Valley floor, Placer County has it all: Arts & Culture, History, Agriculture, & Recreational Activities to suit every season.
Visit us in autumn, when the mountains blaze with the reds & yellows of our fall foliage, and days are warm & sunny, nights cool & crisp. The air is pungent with the fragrance of apples and pumpkins, of turkeys roasting and pies baking; leaves crunch under your feet as you walk along a winding path, and a breeze carries the drifting wood smoke mingled with a sharp woodsy tang in the air.
The sounds of the woodman’s axe heralds the coming winter, when a quiet blanket of snow will hide the leftover weeds of summer, and all is transformed into a sparkling wonderland. But for the joyous shrieks of romping children, or the quiet shush of skis, or an occasional plop of snow off a branch, the world is muffled by white stillness. The holidays are fast approaching and small towns take on the Dickensian look of a bygone century.
Soon, a crocus pokes a timid head from out the grassy yards, and birds twitter and flap as spring announces her arrival. Delicate pinks and whites explode on sleepy trees, whose branches will soon be dressed in vivid greens. At each elevation, trees and wildflowers bloom on an advancing schedule, until the world fills with color and the melodies of a thousand birds, accompanied by the staccato tapping of woodpeckers and the steady drone of bees. Nature’s fragrant symphony.
As the days warm to the longer sunlight, summer promises ripe, red tomatoes and fragrant, sweet peaches. At County Fairs, calliopes and pig races and the call of the Midway beckon. There are Sunday concerts in the park, picnics, fireworks, and lazy times to just sit and watch a spider spin her web. School is out, camping equipment packed – so many lakes to swim, rivers to fish, trails to hike, and starry nights to dream on. Placer County, it’s all here, all year!
