A host of activities await you in Amador County. The rolling foothills are dotted with quaint communities offering shopping, antiquing, and cultural events… answering the call of those looking for a slower-paced experience. The rolling hills can answer the call of those looking for more action with the likes of mine and cave tours, hiking, golfing and biking. These hills are inner-twined with streams and lakes for fishing, swimming and water sports. The rolling hills aggressively convert to the towering cliffs and summits of the Sierras, answering yet the final call to those hooked on more extreme experiences, such as climbing, spelunking, skiing and off-road adventures.
Mix it up a little. Hang from a cliff by your knuckles 1,000 feet above a pristine mountain lake and spend the evening enjoying live theatre under the stars in Volcano or at the Kennedy Mine Amphitheater. Spend a morning wake boarding on Lake Camanche, pic-nic at the Milo Sharkey Park in Plymouth and spend the afternoon tasting the wines of Amador County. Elevations from 900 feet to 9,000 feet make Amador County an end-less playground anytime of the year.
During the winter months Amador offers exhilarating outdoor activities such as snow mobiling, downhill skiing, and snowshoeing. For those who prefer the less extreme every February the Amador County Vintners present “Behind the Cellar Door”, a special barrel tasting weekend and the Sutter Creek Theater offers a wide variety of musical performances all year.
In the spring, the beauty of Daffodil Hill just outside of Volcano is open Mid March to Mid April. The Amador Flower Farm offers 12 acres of daylilies and other spring fever planting options. Tour the underground wonders of the Black Chasm or the Sutter Gold Mine any day of the year.
The summer months bring us to the refreshing lakes for boating, fishing & swimming. Our Farmers Markets overflow with the bounty of the rich soils. The Amador County Fair at the end of July is always voted one of the best fairs in California. Local live theatre productions are staged in outdoor theatres under the stars. If you like to take a chance with lady luck the Jackson Rancheria Casino has just the action you need.
The warm days and cool evenings in the fall are ideal for exploring the many historic towns, art galleries and local museums. A visit to the Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park lets you peek into the life of the earliest occupants of Amador County. Take a guided history tour of Sutter Creek or Jackson.
We invite you to experience all that Amador has to offer.
